I had to run an errand today to the Huntington, WV Mall. It
was crowded, but not as much as I expected. I left the Mall hungry and realized
I was in the mood for a hot dog. Hillbilly Hotdogs is just up the road at
Lesage. Perfect!
Hillbilly Hotdogs has for years been a popular stop for
hungry travelers as they journey along Route 2 between Pt. Pleasant and Huntington
WV. However, its popularity really took off when the establishment was featured
on The Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives.
Upon arrival it took me a couple of minutes to find the
entrance. The “Open” sign was brightly lit, but the door wouldn’t open. I soon
realized the doorknob and hinges were on the same side. No doubt constructed by
the Monroe Brothers, Alf and Ralph. You’ll remember them from “Green Acres.” The
handle on the other side worked well.
The atmosphere can’t be beat. Customer signatures were
covering the walls, tables, chairs, and everything else. The extension on the
dining room was entered through the emergency exit of an old church bus. There
was plenty of seating. An 8-track player was there as well as an enormous
collection of 8-track tapes to play. Surprisingly, there wasn’t a Bieber or a
Swift tape to be found!
The picture above was taken a couple of years ago before the
place was fully decorated!
I ordered a “Hillbilly Dog” and an “Out Wayne Dog” with a
small order of onion rings. The young lady who took my order and prepared my
food was friendly, and did a great job deep-frying and dressing up my dinner
dogs. Everything was great. This wasn’t my first visit, and definitely won’t be
my last. You can check them out at www.hillbillyhotdogs.com.
You’ll find tons of information, including pictures and their menu. Stop by
when you get a chance.
